ONE-DAY CONFERENCE FOR JUNIOR SCHOLARS OF MIGRATION AND ETHNIC RELATIONS

INVITATION TO ONE-DAY CONFERENCE FOR JUNIOR SCHOLARS OF MIGRATION AND ETHNIC RELATIONS UNIVERSITY OF BERGEN

December 6th, 2019

As a platform for networking, the conference brings together junior scholars[1] from academic institutions in Norway who work with topics related to migration and ethnic relations. In a highly interdisciplinary research field, it is of uttermost importance to create spaces for collaboration and interchange of experiences, knowledge and ideas across disciplines and across institutions. Thus, in Bergen we have founded a local junior scholar network with members from disciplines like medicine, humanities, social sciences, law and education. We organize a range of activities from shut-up-and-write sessions to seminars and writing retreats. Since we find this network extremely valuable in our own work, we would like to extend our network to a national level. Hence, you are hereby invited to attend a one-day conference at the University of Bergen, December 6th, 2019. At the conference you will be able to discuss your project, whatever stage you are at, with other junior scholars who are based in Norway and who study migration and ethnic relations. You will also get the opportunity to discuss theoretical and methodological challenges and perspectives that are particular for and foundational in research on migration and ethnic relations. The conference will include workshops, “practice your elevator talk”, panel debates and a keynote speech given by a topnotch researcher (TBA) on a relevant topic. We organize this conference as an annual event, which aims to promote networking among young scholars across disciplines and institutions, to encourage cooperation, joint publishing, working together on research applications, etc.

There is no conference fee, but participants must pay their own travel expenses. We can try to arrange free accommodation in private homes if you wish. Lunch and light refreshments will be provided. There will be a conference dinner at a reasonable cost in the evening, at the participants’ own expense.

The conference is organized by IMER junior scholar network, Bergen (which is part of IMER Bergen), with funding from Global Challenges, UiB.
